Trick or Treat
Last year, the Colby Police Department called us with a great idea. They wanted to create a safe environment in Colby for kids to trick-or-treat on Halloween, and they thought our downtown would be the perfect place. We couldn’t have agreed more.
So, Police Chief Ron Alexander, Amy Marks and myself walked door to door last September, visiting with downtown business owners and their employees about Amy’s idea. Before we knew it, we had a bunch of excited business owners stockpiling candy and dreaming up costume ideas.
On Halloween evening, hundreds of Colby kids walked up and down the streets of downtown Colby, exploring shops and gathering candy, while their parents visited with business owners. It was a huge success.
Now, we’re getting ready for the 2017 edition of Downtown Trick or Treat and would like to invite you to take part. The event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. on Halloween evening, and everything is just about ready to go. All you need to do is hang the enclosed flier in your window to let the families know you are a stop on the route, and then get your candy ready. We’ll handle the rest. Fliers will be going home with area kids, while Rocking M Radio and the Colby Police Department help spread the word.
And it doesn’t have to be limited to downtown businesses. If your business wants to take part, but are located somewhere else in Colby or Thomas County, let us know. We’ll find someone who will share their sidewalk.
I’m sure the kids would agree… the more the merrier.
