Downtown Trick or Treat
A couple of years ago, the police department called with a fantastic idea. They wanted to create a safe environment for kids to trick-or-treat on Halloween, and they thought Colby’s downtown businesses would be the perfect hosts.
We couldn’t agree more.
Our downtown community has fully embraced the new tradition. Each year they welcome hundreds of kids into their stores and encourage them to walk up and down the streets of downtown Colby, exploring shops and gathering candy, while their parents visit with business owners and learn more about what they have to offer. It as been a huge success with an estimated 600 kids coming into the downtown area from all over northwest Kansas.
Now, we’re getting ready for the 2018 edition of Downtown Trick or Treat and I would like to invite you to take part. The event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. on Halloween evening, and all you need to do is hang the enclosed flier in your window to let the families know you are a stop on the route. Then get your candy ready. You’ll need it! Fliers will be going home with area school kids, while Rocking M Radio and the Colby Police Department help spread the word.
This doesn’t have to be limited to downtown businesses. If your organization wants to take part, but are located somewhere else in Colby or Thomas County, let us know. We’ll be happy to help find someone who will share their sidewalk with you.
No matter where you are located in Thomas County, we want to encourage you to take advantage of this great marketing opportunity… because if you are eight years old, there is no such thing as too much candy!
