The women’s basketball program at Colby Community College will be led by James Cole for the 2020-21 season, the college recently announced. He fills the vacancy left by Antwain Scales, who resigned in March.
Cole has experience coaching at different levels. In the college ranks, he served as an assistant men’s coach at Alabama Southern Community College, Millsaps College, Jones County Junior College, and Independence Community College. He was also a head basketball coach at both Greenwood High School and Saint Joseph Catholic School in Mississippi. Before accepting the position at CCC, he was the head girls coach at Independence High School.
“I’m extremely excited about bringing James Cole to Colby. He is known around the country as a top-notch recruiter and has been around successful basketball programs throughout his career,” CCC Athletic Director Mike Saddler said. “I look forward to the future of Colby women’s basketball under Coach Cole.”
Cole earned a master’s degree in interscholastic athletic administration and a bachelor’s degree in coaching and sports administration. He begins immediately, pending board approval.

Options Inc. is pleased to announce the addition of Angie Gaede to their Colby office. Angie joined the Options team last month as an Outreach Advocate.
“My work as an advocate at Options is important to me,” says Gaede. “No victim should ever have to go through life alone. In the medical field, many times I witnessed victims alone and I wished there was a better way of handling it. Now I’m part of that better way.”
Angie joined Carla Sharp at the Options Colby office. Together, they will be providing core services to the far Northwest counties, of Kansas including Cheyenne, Rawlins, Decatur, Sherman, Thomas, Sheridan, Wallace, Logan and Gove. If you or someone you know is in need of help, please call Angie, Carla, or any of our advocates, at (800) 794-4624.

Thomas County Economic Development Alliance is thrilled to announce their latest program, Restart Thomas County. This program will provide capital resources to local for-profit businesses as they continue to deal with the effects of COVID-19.
The resources will be provided in the form of low interest loans. More detailed information about the program will become available soon. However, they are still looking for businesses and individuals to partner with them. Through the use of state income tax credits, every dollar contributed puts 60 percent directly in the hands of Thomas County businesses.
The other 40 percent provides indirect assistance through programs and additional resources. If you’d like to be a part of helping Thomas County businesses, please call the Thomas County Economic Development office at (785) 460-4511.
